2005-12-08: Medicare Story; Christmas Cheer!
We have heard from an MVC customer (D.M. in Colorado) about how he has handled the "Medicare Part D"
situation for his wife's medicine. This kind gentleman explained that in Colorado, there are
57 Medicare Part D plans to chose from, offered by 37 different providers. He explained
that it took him 20 hours of computer time to figure out which plan was right for his wife. He found
a plan that covers ALL of her drugs, including Arimidex, as follows:
- No Initial membership fee
- \$58/month premium
- \$110/month co-pay amount
- No donut hole or any gaps
- Maximum out-of-pocket \$1750
But wait! Shouldn't the maximum be his monthly premium PLUS the monthly co-pay times 12 months? That
would work out to (\$58+\$110)*12 = \$2,016. He says that some plans clearly spell out the maximum
out-of-pocket amount per year, as this one does, and it says \$1750. He checked multiple times with
his wife's plan provider, and THIS IS THE CASE.
He is saving her a few THOUSAND dollars a year. He explained that he started out by eliminating plans
that don't cover her most expensive medicine, Arimidex, as his first cut. This cut the list of available plans
in half. From there, he proceeded to check out EVERY remaining plan. He did say, though, that it took a
lot of work, and he can't imagine how other seniors who are not as computer literate, or mentally
capable, are ever going to figure out this Medicare mess.
He was thankful that we were there when he and his wife needed us, and wished us all the best in the future.
He said he would order from us if his wife's Medicare coverage or prescription changed and the current plan
became obsolete. We wished him and his wife a very Merry Christmas! -###-
Did you know ...? A number of agents took us up on the offer to produce a list of customer names and
addresses so they could send out Christmas Cards. It's not too late for you to request your own customer list!
Did you know ...? Since our last Agent Tip went out, we haved received a prescription from Montana. That leaves
Wyoming as the only State not to have ordered from MVC (yet!).
Did you know ...? MVC will be on a holiday schedule between Christmas and New Years Day. Processing
will continue as normal, but you or your customers may experience a slight delay in response times.
Please enjoy your
Holiday
Season !!
